Living Data:
Evidence of nature forming through relationships
and human responses as part of that forming process.
Living Data is an independent program of Conversations, Presentations and Publications, that reflect knowledge shared between scientists, artists and other scholars. My work on Living Data is part of my Artist in Residency in the Faculty of Science at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). I present, publish, archive, and make available my animations under a Non-Commercial Creative Commons Share Alike license. About Living Data in 3 minutes
Video by journalist Jen Ng
with Living Data collaborators at UTS:
Anthropologist Dr Jonathan Marshall and
Scientist Professor William Gladstone.
Although I may lead the story-telling of Living Data, the story does not belong to me or even to the association of contributors. Guided by Wilson (2008)I recognise the story as part of the relationships between us and the living world, and the iconography we share as primal expressions of connection that are available to everyone. My world view is shaped by my Aboriginal Australian and European ancestry, and by working with scientists and other artists to understand and mitigate harmful human impacts on natural climate systems.
Living Data builds on Antarctic Animation, the PhD research (UNSW 2010) that resulted in a lexicon of animated primal forms that I still use to combine scientific data and subjective responses. Living Data contributes to the imaginative featof knowing our selves as part of nature.
